Become a Volunteer at The Gravel of Marathon
On 15 November, Marathon hosts the first UCI Gravel World Series race in Greece. More than 250 riders are expected, with over 100 already registered from Europe, across two courses of roughly 95 and 65 kilometres that start and finish at the Marathon Stadium and run alongside the lake and its marble dam. To make sure the race takes place safely, we are looking for 26 volunteers.
You will be part of a moment that makes history for Greek cycling, on the ground where the Battle of Marathon was fought 2,500 years ago, and you will see from the inside how an international race is put together. You will also contribute to an event that cares for the place that hosts it, with no plastic and one tree planted for every participant, and that presents Marathon as a model of sustainable tourism development.
We need 20 course volunteers, who will be stationed at predetermined points, signal to cars to slow down, make sure traffic is flowing safely as the riders pass and confirm that participants are following the correct direction.
We also need 6 volunteers at 3 aid stations, who will hand out water to participants and stay in contact with the organisers, confirming that everything is going well.
No experience is required, only a sense of responsibility, a calm head and a team spirit. You will be at a fixed point outdoors from 09:00 to 17:00, depending on your position, you will need a mobile phone and you will follow the organisers’ instructions, after a briefing before the race. Volunteers receive a branded fleece, a commemorative T-shirt, a bottle of water and a sandwich, as well as a certificate of participation and a thank-you letter.
To sign up, send us a message at info@gravelchallenge.gr with your name, a contact phone number and the role you are interested in. We look forward to seeing you in Marathon, to write this story together.
