Imagine a three-day weekend packed with cycling and mountain activities, in a small mountain village of 100 residents, at an altitude of 750 meters, southeast of Lake Plastira, in the Thessalian Agrafa mountain range, just 25 kilometers from Karditsa.
Picturesque houses with red-tiled roofs, well-kept streets, and towering plane trees in the central village square — a settlement that has existed since the 17th century. Step a little outside the village and you lose yourself in a magnificent forest of pristine nature.
You can spend the night in one of the village's few rooms, or at the specially arranged free camping area under the trees, and feel truly at one with nature.
We're talking about Amarantos, Karditsa — a small paradise, well hidden in the Thessalian Agrafa.
And what better way to explore it than on a gravel bike?
Back in 2025, it was the second edition of The Greek Gravel Experience series, and it took place in Amarantos, Karditsa — a mountain village we all fell in love with.

Last year, a weekend wasn't enough! This year we have more activities, and we're inviting you for the full three days — living close to nature, deep in the mountains, in the welcoming setting of a small village. Sleep under the trees if you wish, or choose one of the simple room options if you prefer a roof over your head.
Local food in the village square, new friends, trails through the surrounding area, and activities that will make you fall in love with the place.

The Routes
We start from the central square of Amarantos, Karditsa, from the church courtyard. After winding through the charming village lanes, we head out onto forest roads that lead into the heart of the Thessalian Agrafa.
We follow forest dirt tracks and accessible trails before making our way toward the Thessalian wine villages. We pass through Dafnospilia, Paliouri, Melisochori, and Dasochori, then take the return road back to Amarantos — finishing after approximately 50 km and 860 m of elevation gain.
It's a stunning route where the landscapes shift in a uniquely beautiful way: from the high mountains of the Thessalian Agrafa down to the plains villages, from tall forest trees to vineyards — with barely any asphalt. The ideal terrain for a gravel bike, though that doesn't mean you can't ride it on an MTB either!
